DESCRIPTION:This Youth Workshop will serve youth East of the Anacostia River\, Wards 7 and 8\, ages 15\nto 24. We are inviting DC Public/Charter Schools (Grades 8-12)\, churches\, public and private\norganizations\, public agencies\, elected officials\, local businesses and employers to participate in the\nWorkshop and refer youth to attend. Features will include panel presentations and exhibitors by\nemployers\, drug counselors\, apprenticeship and skill training providers\, workforce development and\nsupport service programs and returning citizens. Youth will receive a “Certificate of Participation\,” and\nDCPS/DCPCS Community Service Hours for their participation. Online and telephone follow-up\ncounseling services will also be available. We are committed to share information\, resources and\nopportunities through opioid drugs and violence prevention and how to overcome barriers to targeted\ncareers in neighborhoods East of the River in the Nation’s Capital. SUMMARY:36th Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet
DESCRIPTION:Takoma Aquatic Center\n300 Van Buren St NW Washington DC 20012 \nThe invitational was founded with the goals of providing urban youth nationwide with a positive outlet for expression\, exposure to strong competition\, a forum to meet positive role models\, and the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital. Since the very first year\, DPR and UBF are proud that the Black History Invitational Swim Meet has fulfilled these goals and has grown from a small\, local competition to one now hailed by USA Swimming\, the national governing body for the sport of swimming\, as the “premier minority swim competition in the United States and in the World.” During the three-day Invitational\, youth athletes ranging in age from 5 – 18 will compete in standard swim events\, such as the individual medley\, freestyle\, butterfly\, relays\, and back and breast strokes; attracting nearly 1100 minority competitors\, ages 5–18\, from swim teams in Los Angeles\, Atlanta\, Detroit\, Cleveland\, New York and other metropolitan areas in the United States.
