Brief Description of Duties:

The Staff Accountant provides analytical support to the Finance Department. He/she also carries out duties on behalf of the internal control system managed by the Chief Financial Officer to include: backup to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable processes; financial management.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare and manage program fiscal budgets by working directly with Program Managers;
  • Prepare monthly program invoices for review and approval by the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or Chief Executive Officer.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries;
  • Reconcile monthly GL accounts pertaining to revenue and assets;
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in the development and analysis of the annual organization’s program budgets;
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in preparing the unaudited monthly financial reports for Executive Team, Finance Committee and Board Review;
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in the preparation on the annual audit;
  • Be a key interface with all the organization’s staff;
  • Follow agency and finance department policies and procedures;
  • Meet departmental goals and/or outcomes. Maintain and grow in required competency level for the position;
  • Assisting Program Managers in the financial reporting and other administrative requirements of their grants/contacts
  • Monitoring/tracking the status of each program budget monthly to reconcile with financial reports;
  • Back up for managing petty cash gift cards account with random audits from the CFO reports



Minimum BA specialized in Accounting or Business Management and at least five plus years of comparable experience is required. Quick Books or other Accounting Software proficiency and Excel skills will be needed to be a strong performer in this role. Grants management experience a plus. Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite, skilled in oral and written communication and customer relations and able to multi- task. Experience with nonprofit accounting and budget management is a plus.

Excellent customer service skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to confidentiality protocols. Ability to work in a diverse environment in a community setting with an open-door policy. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask and complete daily tasks timely.

Note: Must be able to obtain a clear Police Clearance, Child Abuse Registry Clearance and FBI Clearance and must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
